Home > Frequently asked questions > Temperature and humidity in my wine cellar
Why these two elements are essential and how to control them for ideal preservation.
The ideal temperature for a wine cellar is between 12°C and 14°C for red wines and between 8°C and 10°C for white wines. A constant temperature is essential for optimal wine conservation. A wine cellar air conditioner helps to maintain this temperature without fluctuations.
A constant temperature avoids thermal shocks that can alter the aromas and structure of the wine. Winemaster wine cellar air conditioners (links to air conditioners) guarantee an ideal, stable temperature for your cellar, and are also essential for wine ageing.
Humidity in the wine cellar plays an essential role. It must not be too high to prevent the growth of mould on bottles, walls and storage units. It can also damage wooden and metal wine racks. The humidity level must not be too low either, to prevent corks from drying out and letting air through, which could oxidise the wine.
We recommend maintaining a humidity level of between 60% and 75% to preserve the quality of your wine and prevent deterioration of your wine storage cabinets.
To begin with, to monitor the humidity level in your wine cellar, you can use the Winemaster Connect application on connected air conditioners to check the humidity level in your wine cellar. To maintain optimum humidity levels, you can use the Hygromaster for cellars that need to be humidified and the Drymaster for cellars with excessively high humidity levels.
